Basically, what search indexing does is scan all folders that are configured for indexation on the Windows device to add, change and remove the index to take into account file changes in those locations. While that works well on many devices, it may cause big performance issues on others. Generally speaking it is a good idea to turn Windows Search indexing off if you don't search often, or use a different desktop search program for that instead.
